Our Design Inspiration

Beal Street Square in Rocky Mount is a great example of how our team works with local neighborhoods to create product that fits their needs.

The City of Rocky Mount wanted to replace four blocks of substandard housing with new apartments that fit the historic character of the historic Happy Hill neighborhood.  Many of the houses were sitting empty.  The City of Rocky Mount wanted new housing on the site they had put together, but they didn’t want a “Suburban Three Story Walk-up Complex” to be built in their downtown adjacent site.

This is our original drawing from our discussion with the City.

Our team then expanded this into a 1920’s pocket neighborhood concept where we would create three courtyards surrounded by new modern apartments. Here is one of our first sketchup drawings.

We then took this drawing along with input from the City of Rocky Mount, Preservation Rocky Mount and the Happy Hill Association and worked with the folks at Steele Group Architecture in Winston Salem and came up with this concept.

After 12 months of construction with Rehab Builders, here is the final result.
